Lost conman in a rental car with knock off Armani Refortage should have known Not a fashionista

When sitting in a car park in Carlow Town, Ireland. I was approached by a well dressed middle aged man. He told me he was Italian and lost and he asked directions to Dublin. He said he worked with shops such as Brown Thomas in Dublin and he came over from Italy to sell them goods. He told me that he had some clothing samples and that he was reluctant to bring them home because of the weight costs on the plane. He showed me his documentation - flight tickets, the rental document for his Renault Clio.

He then showed me some Refortage coats. Not being a fashionista I did not realise the trick. The three coats were brown suade (2) and black leather. He told me he had a Hugo Boss suit too but I wasn't interested so he said he'd keep that himself. He told me that some of the coats were worth up to 300 but I got the three for 120 (not a bad price really, the coats were quite nice despite being fake).

I was amazed to later read reports on the internet of people being conned by the same people using the same modus operandi as far away as Miami. This must be truly a global phenomenon.
