Legacy Long Distance
Ripped me off for two calls, each less than a minute, I charged to my MC Debit Card for $30.05 a piece ripoff

I was meeting a friend for dinner at BJs (Beach location) in Huntington Beach, California, on October 30th, when I discovered my cellphone's battery was dead. I went into the restaurant to use the payphone. The coin slot was blocked on the public phone and would not accept coins, of which I had plenty. I hit "0" and charged two calls to my MC Debit Card; one to my cellphone voicemail to make sure my date hadn't called, and the other to my date. Each call lasted maybe a minute, if that long.

Today (Nov. 8th) I happen to check my bank statement online and saw two charges from "MC-Legacy To # 800-6700015 for $30.05 a piece. So I called the 800 number to see what these charges were for. The guy who answered the phone identified the company as Legacy Long Distance. Then I remembered charging the calls to my card. He told me about the extra charges for making an operator assisted call yada yada yada. I kept repeating "but $30.05 for a call that lasted less than a minute is ridiculous."

He advised me to fax a copy of my statement along with a letter explaining what happened to their billing department. I asked him what city Legacy was in and he told me Cypress, California. I decided to check up on this company so I typed their name, city and state into the web browser and complaint came up first.

I immediately called BJ's in Huntington Beach and told the Manager, Steven, what had happened to me in his restaurant. He was very nice and listened to my story. He said he would check into it and call me back. I want to believe him. I told him I was very upset and was about to go postal about this whole situation.

I'm going to send a letter to Legacy with a copy of my statement as instructed and see what happens.
