Sanford Brown College
Ripoff dishonest manipulative

Education & Science

This was my response to Sanford Brown wanting to know why I chose not to apply after I interviewed with an admissions representative.

"I interviewed with your school as part of research on expedited degree colleges. My admissions representative was Jeff Malone at the Granite City, IL campus. Mr. Malone was extremely nice and did his job, which is nothing more than delivering a sales pitch to single moms, divorced women... People who are desperate to start over and don't have a lot of time to spare.

I went into the interview with an interest in Sanford Brown's Radiography program. Even though that program is not covered at the Granite City campus, Mr. Malone assured me that he would go over that program with me as well.

At the time of our phone conversation, he was pushing the Medical Billing and Coding program. As I went through my interview with Mr. Malone, I tried bringing radiography into the conversation several times along with the billing and coding. It seemed he didn't listen to my interests and insisted that I enroll in the medical assistant program. He insisted this was a good career choice for me, even though he had just met me 10 minutes prior and obviously wasn't catching the hints I was throwing at him towards the other two programs.

During my tour of the campus, Mr. Malone was sure to point out all the posters on the wall stating Sanford Brown's mission, which implied it was here to serve people with caring, honesty and a wholesome education. I went to my interview armed with information on tuition costs from a local community college.

I was shocked to find out that the medical assistant program with Sanford Brown, which is a one year program, costs $18,000. The same course with the community college, also a one year program, has a tuition cost of $1,683.

After the difference in cost was established, I went about talking with former students of Sanford Brown. Most of them had a hard time finding employment after deciding to move up the occupational ladder, leaving the job Sanford Brown had assisted them in finding. Most of them decided to go back to university later and found out that Sanford Brown's credits, which my admissions advisor told me were 100% transferable to any college or university, were absolutely not accepted where they were applying.

It seems like my experience was manipulated through graphical displays of posters assuring me that this school cared about me, about my future.in the end, it seems that Sanford Brown, along with other schools in the same class i'm sure, are nothing more that diploma mills.

Mr. Malone did his job. If I had gone in there, desperate and yearning for a fresh start, Mr. Malone would have surely convinced me that he held my future, that Sanford Brown held my future and that all I needed was to sign those financial aid applications. I hold nothing against Mr. Malone, he has a family to support too, right?"
