New Horizons I
New horizons rips off people with horrendous contract and false pretenses

Education & Science

I went to one of the many seminars where New Horizons attempts to recruit potential students. The "current" market data for IT professionals was outdated by about 5 years, but the presentation convinced me that the school might be worthwhile.

The account manager/administrator was very kind and helpful, but deceiving. I was told that the classes would cover everything I needed to know to not only pass the exams, but to be actually proficient in the topics. Also, I was told I would have off hours access to the computer labs and a qualified instructor.

The icing on the cake was a paid internship for at least $14 an hour with a strong potential for full-time employment and deferment of student loans for 18 months after I finished the whole curriculum with a low interest rate. Unfortunately, I was in for a rude awakening... Michael B*, the account administrator, has deceived me and others with this fallacy.

The IT field is actually in a steady decline according to recent data as of 2003 untill now. Also, the paid internship is for one week for 40 hours and you (the student) have to search for it, they do not find you an internship. The instruction is haphazardly at best. The instructor rushes through every topic, the courses cover maybe at best 1% of what is actually on the exam. You must get study guides elsewhere or you will fail the exams miserably. You will only become proficient or even remotely knowledgable if you take the time to study on your own time.

The interest rate was horrendous at 13% and there is absolutely no deferment of loans, because it is a private loan, not a loan for an accredited educational institution. I had to download my own study guides in order to learn the material and I obtained employment on my own based on my own personal experience prior to this ridiculous school.

For $18,000, I could have purchased study material and paid for the exams and had money left over for a nice cruise to celebrate. Now I'm in the hole $18k because of this deceit. I do NOT recommend this school to anyone unless you are a complete idiot like I was. This is fair warning to anyone looking to go into Information Technology.
