Ripoff Cash for Keys WHY?

Where do I start? Let's try this past July. It just gets better from there.

Got a letter from Homecomings demanding $12,990 to cover the 'investors costs' in purchasing our 2 year old mortgage. They supposedly were just 'representing' said investors interests. Had 5 days to pay it and agree to the new monthly payment amount or the house would be sold at an already scheduled foreclosure sale.

Fine. Spoke to an attorney, realized Homecomings had us by the short hairs. We paid their blood money, have been making regular, on-time payments of the new monthly amount since then. Even sent the December'05 payment over 2 weeks early to avoid any Thanksgiving mail problems.

Funny thing, the check wasn't showing clearing the bank as recently as 11/27. After several calls to Homecomings on 11/29 to find out what was going on, we finally got through. We were told they got the check on 11/18 and RETURNED it to us by mail because "we didn't know what it was for". Mind you, loan number and Dec '05 were clearly annotated on the check.

We decided to Western Union the funds to Homecomings immediately just in case this was another of their rip-off attempts. Did just that, sent them the December payment electronically now 2 days early to prevent any problems.

What do we get this morning? A notice of Cash-For-Keys Settlement Offer. Seems our house has been purchased by Homecomings Financial at a Foreclosure Sale of unknown date and for an unknown reason by us. We've been threatened with eviction for some reason also unknown to us.

Maybe they didn't like the idea that we were in the process of attempting to refinance out from under them. If successful, they would have lost another victim to extort. Who knows what happens now, but will be seeking legal counsel on Monday.
