Tried to scam me with car sale through western union

I saw a vehicle on cars.com for sale at a very low price, so I emailed the seller as to its legitmacy. A few weeks after the ad was expired the seller contacted me.

He claimed that he had moved to Rome Italy and that he was having trouble selling his vehicle. He stated that if i wanted to purchase the vehicle he would only accept payment through western union. He requested half of the selling price to send the vehicle to me in 72 hours from recieving payment.

The car was listed for sale in Beverly hills and I offered to come see the vehicle in person, I requested his phone number and he refused. All he ever gave me as an incomplete address in Rome. After emailing each other i figured out that the car was actually in Rome in storage.

He said he would declare the vehicle as a gift to avoid customs and taxes. He said all I had to do was declare the payments as gifts through western union. The only form of payment he would accept was western union, and he claimed that he could not send the vehicle to me unless i sent him cash first.

I told him that I would send him only a much smaller deposit, but he still refused my offer to then inspect the vehicle and was not forthcoming with most information i requested as proof of ownership.

He eventually gave me the VIN number to the car which came up clear with him as the original owner. It had been purchased in Utah and never inspected since.

I feel that since he tried to sell me a vehicle from Italy, through western union, and with out being able to see, eet or talk to him or see the vehicle, that he was trying to scam me.

I tried repeatedly to offer to pay for the call, and even to fly to Rome. I also suggested him to send the vehicle to a relative or friend here in the US.

He always ignored those offers and gave me lame excuses or avoided answering specific questions.
