Electrolux Will not honor written warranty

I have a defective Frigidaire front load washer model GLTF1670AS0. Frigidaire refuses to honor its own written warranty.

This washer has had very light use in a household of two people. It began making a horrible sound and was obviously broken. I have disassembled it and determined that the spider support on the inner wash basket has sustained breaks on two of its three support arms. This makes the washer unusable. The inner wash basket and the spider support are one integrated unit so to fix this problem, you must replace the entire inner wash basket assembly.

Frigidaire's written guarantee says that the warranty for the inner basket includes, "Replacement part for an inner wash basket that breaks due to a defect in materials or workmanship." This warranty is in force for 25 years from the purchase date.

The broken spider support arms are clearly the result of a "defect in materials."

Frigidaire telephone support maintains that the warranty provides that the basket will only be supplied to an authorized repair agent. They were UNABLE to tell me where this is written in the warranty.

They also informed me that Frigidaire will NOT pay for the authorized agent to either inspect or replace the defective inner basket even if Frigidaire was to supply the part as the warranty states it will.

Because of high labor repair costs, the expense of a service visit, let alone having the part installed exceeds the value of the washer. On the other hand, I have the machine disassembled and could easily install the new part myself if Frigidaire supplied it as they have warranted to do.

I would be happy to take the old part to an authorized Frigidaire representative for their inspection at the time the new drum is either available or could be ordered for me.

Frigidaire told me that even if I did this, the part would still NOT be supplied to me.

It is very clear, in writing, that this part is under warranty. Nowhere in this section of the written warranty does it say that the part has to be replaced by an authorized repair person. Yet Frigidaire refuses to supply me with a replacement for this obviously defective part.

Conclusion: Frigidaire does NOT honor its own warranty. I will be litigating this matter and will update this report with the results of the trial when available. (I also think that this is a great opportunity for a class action suit.)

Do not buy frigidaire appliances if you expect the warranty to be honored.
