Maryland Waterproofing & Radon Reduction
Affordable Waterproofing of Maryland Deceptive Sales Practice / Forging of Signature

Construction & Repair

During Tropical Storm Lee our partially finished basement experience flooding. Called many Waterproofing companies but only two were able to come in a timely manner due to the number of flooded basements. Maryland Waterproofing was first. They explained what was causing the problem and stated that since the new underdrain would be over 100 lf, that County Code required the addition of a second sump pump. This seemed odd, and myself and my wife questioned the estimator / salesman concerning this many times, always with the response that it was per County Code requirements. A second company who came later stated that same thing. Went with Maryland Waterproofing since they were available pretty quickly.

During discussions with my insurance adjuster, I was informed I could claim the additional sump pump work if it was a County Code requirement. When I asked Maryland Waterproofing for the specific County Code requirements, they did not immediately respond. Then they would provide answers that did not address the issue. Finally, the original estimator informed me that there was no County Code, that he never said there was, that an additional sump pump was per "Engineering Recommendations" and per FHA and HUD. Personal calls to the County Government confirmed that there was no specific code concerning additional sump pumps when the drain lines exceed a specified distance.

Further attempts on my part to address this with Maryland Waterproofing have led to nowhere. They do not want to address the issue.

Maryland Waterproofing also forged a signature on the contract. No formal contract was ever signed. When they were asked to provide documents concerning the work performed and a breakdown of the work performed, they sent a contract with an illegible signature. Neither my wife nor myself signed any documents with Maryland Waterproofing. With a flooded basement this was not even brought up. Maryland Waterproofing also provided a document that stated a second sump pump was required when the drain pipe exceeded a specified lineal footage per "Engineering Recommendations". This document was never shown to my wife and myself until we received it in an e-mail after the work was completed.

Do not hire Maryland Waterproofing. They are dishonest. I had always heard that Waterproofing Contractors were shady. I really did not want to hire one, but felt I had no choice since the basement was flooded and I am permanently in a wheel chair.
