Sierra Quad Steer-Cannot be fixed

I purchased my 2004 GMC Sierra K2500 new as a leftover on the lot of a dealer in 2005. I loved my truck, so I purchased the extended warranty from the dealer, through GMC. For the last year I have had problems with the quad steer malfunctioning. The problem is a gear located in the differential. I was told by the dealer and the warranty company that the part was discontinued two years ago and it cannot be fixed. The warranty company has been somewhat helpful. The company has called around trying to find a re-manufactured part or a used one to replace mine. I called GM's consumer help line. What a freakin' joke! They gave me outside resources-www.autozone.com. Nice. Huh? I'm really going to find a GM specific part there. (extreme sarcasm). GM's answer is to disable the 4 wheel steer. So, what about the premium I paid to have the option of the quad steer? What happens when I trade in my "broken" truck? It will be worth less. I think I'm going to go buy a Dodge. I seriously feel GM needs to make this right.
