Ripoff - dishonest roofer who scams people out of their deposits

On August 9, Kevin Few gave me an estimate on replacing my roof. He wrote a proposal with everything that was to be done. I gave him a deposit of $2,250 to start the job. He indicated this on the proposal and signed his name.

My check was cashed on August 11.in the beginning, I got one excuse after the other as to why he had not started the job. From this point it went to not being able to reach him at all. When I dialed the number it just stayed busy. Kevin called me on September 29, with a story about being ill and promising to do the job. He was scheduled to come to my house on October 6. A truck showed up that morning with the supplies and could not leave them because the material was not paid for, and of course they could not reach Kevin.

I had no way of reaching him, so through the telephone number he gave me (443-375-0135), I was able to track down the owner on record, which turned out to be Kevin's brother. I left a message on the house telephone, and Kevin returned my call.in a final attempt to work with him, He was to call on 10/19 to confirm working that week. Of course no call or show.

On October 27, I called the brother's house (410-751-0347). I spoke to Kevin's sister in-law and was informed that Kevin had been taking people's money to do a job, or he would start a job and never finish it. She was kind enough to give me Kevin's mothers' telephone number and address. I was also told that Kevin had been staying somewhere in Littlestown, MD.

Also, the last conversation I had with Kevin was from his brother's house. Kevin's sister in law Stacey, said that Kevin's exact words was that "he could talk his way out of anything."

Now not only do I have to pay someone else to do the roof, I also have water damage in a room to pay for.
