Real estate ripoff in

The Government of Tonga has speedily picked up on this. A Public Notice in Tongan and English has appeared in the media this week headed "Royal Commission Inquires Into Unlawful Sale and Leases of Land In Vava'u." The Notice states some land dealings in Vava'u may be unlawful and there will be a Royal Inquiry which will focus on the unlawful sale and lease of land mainly to foreigners through the use of the internet. It states some of these dealings appear to be scams and are designed to financially exploit unsuspecting foreigners and Tongan landowners alike. The public is invited to provide information which may assist the Royal Land Commission in the Inquiry which will be held in Vava'u in February. The Tonga Government is clearly concerned about the allegations which can do irreparable damage to Tonga's reputation. A Royal Commission, appointed by HM the King is as high as it gets.
