PartSelect.com
Customers may be subject to undisclosed "Foreign Transaction Fee" and ripped off on returned items

Construction & Repair

PartSelect.com is one of several prominent sites where individuals can order repair parts for their appliances. The site is well-designed and easy to use.

Unfortunately the company does not disclose on their website that customers may be subject to an extra charge on their credit cards. This extra charge will come as a surprise, is typically in the ballpark of 3%, and is listed as a "Foreign Transaction Fee". The company was contacted and it was requested that they, in the future, disclose this hidden fee on their website. They refused, with no explanation.

Additionally, my experience shows that the company is untruthful about their return policy. After obtaining a return authorization number, I sent back by UPS, at my expense, two parts I had ordered. After waiting over a month for a refund, I contacted the company and they denied ever receiving my shipment, despite my having a delivery confirmation! The company will not respond to emails in any meaningful way to solve this issue. Their tactic seems to be to write emails such as: "We have contacted the shipping department", and then never follow up, apparently waiting for the customer to just go away.

PartSelect is rated A by the Better Business Bureau, despite the fact that over 49 complaints have been submitted to the BBB. This is one more piece of evidence that a ripoff company can maintain an A rating by simply being a fee-paying member of the BBB.
