York advertises a 5-year Parts and Labour Warranty on their residential furnaces, but when you get some warranty service on your furnace be prepared to pay a "Diagnostic charge" of $89.95. When did the term "labour" change to "Diagnostic charge"?
When I called the Company's Consumer Relations department, they told me the charge covers the cost of travelling to my residence, and to diagnose the problem, among other things. Well then, is the technician who comes to my residence being paid a "labour" rate, a "diagnostic rate, or some other rate which they have a "special" word for. Labour is labour, no matter how you spell it.
Most service calls take about 1 hour. Isn't it interesting that the labour rate for non-warranty service on your furnace is approximately $90 per hour. So really, is it a 5-year Parts and Labour Warranty or a 5-year Parts Warranty with an $89.95 service charge?
Shop around. I found York's warranty to be a false and misleading advertisement.
