Be warned! Before you hire a contractor in nj please please please goto the new jersey department of consumer affairs website and click the link on the right that says home improvement contractors. Make sure your contractor is licensed/insured. If he is not do not hire them!!! This is extremely important no matter what they tell you. Also do not let them give you a contractors registration number that is not their own. This is illegal.

Now let me tell you about dave fries. While he is a nice guy and does decent work his work ethic is unprofessional. A job that should have taken no more than 2 months was over 9 months and still only 1/4 finished. He took over 3/4 of the money for the job and would not come back to complete the job in a timely manner. He would show up one day and be gone the rest of the month. I finally had to fire dave because he could not complete the job nor show up steadily. He also used a license number that was not his own and let his contractors insurance expire.

I would sincerely not recommend him for big jobs.

When hiring a contractor never ever ever give any money to start. If they are a legitimate contractor they will have business accounts for materials and will work off a draw as work is completed. Most shady contractors will try and collect a 1/3rd payment up front and then disappear for a while. They do this to enough people and they never have to do any actual work. I recommend not paying anything up front and only as work progresses.

Dave fries took over $15,000 from me for a $25,000 job that should have taken 2 months and after 9 months was not even 1/4 complete. I would not recommend him.
