Big Tin Shed
Dont pay cash when ordering furniture!

Construction & Repair

After a month of internet searching, I finally found the perfect couch & loveseat. Ashley Duracord in Navy blue fit all my specifications, and was reasonably priced. I decided to go down the street to The Big Tin Shed instead of going to Ashley store 15 miles away, and would be helping a local family business. I went to the Shed and they had my couch in white so I checked it out and loved the lines and the comfort of it. So, I ordered the set in navy and paid 898.00 on my debit card. I was a little disapointed when the salesman said 4 or 5 weeks for delivery, but never-the-less was happy that my livingroom would finally be finished (i had gotten a 62' Tv and new tables to match the giant Tv stand and was replacing my 20 yr old sofa set that, although had served me well over the years, needed to be retired.

After 4 weeks had gone by, I gave the loveseat away and broke down the couch to put it in the dumpster (way more fun than it should have been). The next day I rented a carpet cleaner and was now ready for new stuff. I bought a video game rockerchair to use as I always wanted to have one anyways (actually pretty comfortable). After 5 1/2 weeks, I called them to see if I could schedule delivery on my days off and was told "2 more weeks because with gas prices so up, they needed to fill up the truck with orders before they could send it from warehouse in Ca." I was mad, but understood and at least I knew it was on the way. After 3 more weeks go by, I call again (they never called me ever) and are told 2 more weeks (same reason). Up to 9 1/2 weeks now have gone by, and that video rocker aint that comfortable anymore. This call and excuse repore goes on until 115 days after I initially order the funiture. On day 116. I go up to the Shed and ask how much longer? The cashier gets up and looks into the Ashley book, and then goes to a calendar and says to me "about 4 to 5 weeks" I just then realized that my stuff wasnt even ordered yet and asked for my money back. She said "no refunds on special orders". I then asked very loudly for the manager, and she went around the corner and came back and said Ok and un-debited my money back and didnt say a single word to me except that initial Ok. Damn them! So I drove to Ashley store and would hopefully get my furniture there.

The guy at the Ashely store was great, but it would take 4 to 6 weeks for delivery although he would honor the Sheds price. I took his card and decided to go home and think about it. On the way home, I saw this store with Furniture Going Out Of Business in the window, and turned around and went in. I told the lady owner my story and she said "i used to work for the Shed 5 years ago' and told me why I never got my furniture. It seems if you pay cash like I did, they use your money to stock up or buy other folks' stuff and lie to you about why your stuff isnt here yet. So, the lesson is dont pay cash, and I guess you cant trust that just because you try to help a "littlestore" you might not be getting a deal at all. I finally got the furniture 157 days after first ordering it. And the lesson will be remembered.
