Took our money & made us homeless

On September 27th we were told by our sales representative from Clayton Homes that we were conditionally approved for a new home, and that all we needed to do was bring in our tax returns from the previous two years. We took care of this, and on Saturday, October 6th we came in to sign paperwork and to pay our downpayment. While we were there we were told to "go ahead and start packing" & to "get our current mobile home moved." With this confirmation of approval we went ahead and sold our home, packed up our belongings and the four of us (myself, my husband, & our two young children) moved in temporarily with my in-laws. The next week we received a phone call from our sales representative requesting additional bank statements, and income verification. It was not until this time that we found out that we were still not officially approved for the home, though we were told to move our current home and pack our belongings. We brought the asked for paperwork to the sales representative immediately. On October 16th after having to ask to speak with a manager we finally found out that we were in fact not approved for the home. We were also told by the sales representative that as a last resort we could have my father-in-law cosign with us, and that would definitely secure approval. We were then told by the manager that we would not be able to do that either. So, now we are homeless due to the sales tactics exhibited by Clayton Homes. When we asked for our downpayment back, we were told it would take up to 10 business days to get it back. So, now we are not even able to move forward with finding a new home until we get our downpayment returned. Clayton Homes should not have taken our downpayment, knowing full well that we were not approved yet. They certainly should not have told us to "pack our bags" and "move our home."
