Dishonest cost estimating, fraudulent representation, furniture held hostage until inflated costs paid, poor delivery, no response to complaints ripoff Clifton New Jersey

I made a recent move from Maryland to Texas and contacted the above company to perform the move. The estimate for the move was $3822. I got another estimate from a local mover (Quality Moving and Storage, Lexington Park, MD) who came to the house and surveyed the load. Their estimate was $4,200, so I knew that the move should cost that range. The packers loaded the truck and then informed me that I owed $9164.00! Part of this was $779 for "packiing, " which consisted of wrapping some furniture in packing rugs.

I attempted at that point to call United Moving System, but no superisors were available, so I had to give the packer my VISA number for $5851.20 (I had already given a deposit of $705.40). I was informed that at delivery I would need to give the driver an additional $2667.40 IN CASH before I could get my furniture and possessions.

In the next week I called United 4-5 times A DAY and was informed each time that "no supervisors" are working. When the truck arrived in Texas it was operated by a single driver, no helpers, and he demanded the cash. At that point, since he had no helpers my brother (age 59) and my mother (age 81) and I (age 60) had to help unload the truck. I have never been ripped off this badly before.

I filed a complaint with Federal authorities and the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey. BEWARE of these people - they are engaged in fraudulent activities and they are NOT TO BE TRUSTED!
