Manufacter home buyers, don't buy Palm Harbor!

If you are considering buying a manufacture home, please reconsider and think of buying a site built home. The price of manufactured homes are very impressive and so is their sales pitch, if you possibly can, avoid them all together and go for a site built home. If you do decide to purchase a manufacture home, for your own investment do not even consider a Palm Harbor home.in 1998, after living in our home for 30 years, my husband and I decided to check out a manufacture home and have it put on acerage. We looked at the different ones in our area and decided on a Palm Harbor because we liked the lay-out and the model we liked seemed to be well made and had what we wanted.

We ordered our home in August of 1998 and didn't move in until November 1998. This was to be our dream home and we paid for alot of upgrades and extras. The linoleum was replaced twice and still is a mess. The carpet was to be the one just under the highest quality, as we were shown a sample which was nice and dense. What we got is a very poor grade and they said this is now what they consider second form the best. Nothing done about it.

Our corner tub has a crack through the top. No one has ever even replied back to us after calls left on their answering machine and faxes sent to them. During the first 8 months we were in our home we did get people out to half-ass fix some of our other problems. The outside of the house has to be re-painted already, there is cement splatter all around the house, chips in the house where they once had nails.

The window sills and frames on the inside of the house were to be rounded and tape and textured as in the model. They are not, they are put together with cheap moulding and caulking. The windows are double-pane but almost all of them leak air inside.

The counter top on the master bathroom was cut with a knife and not replaced. My biggest upset was upon seeing the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. They were to be light wood, which I have since found out they called maple, I said I wanted the ones like in the model, the guy told me they were oak, so I said thats what I wanted. Much to my dismay I recieved dark cabinets, not the light ones I wanted and they are held together with wood putty.

I had the head of Palm Harbor over here to see my complaints and he insisted these were quality cabinets. They are not, and I invite anyone interested in buying from Palm Harbor to come see my home and then you will have second thoughts. This is not a strip down model, we have a $70,000 home.
