Construction & Repair

I hired this company to retile my shower and bathroom floor, and place a new vanity top on my existing vanity base (with a new sink). I was charged only labor with the understanding that I would purchase all of the materials, which was fine. The first day, two people show up (not the owner, who lead me to believe he would be the one working here) who demo the bathroom and tear apart the vanity base which was supposed to stay. They claimed I told them to take it, however, the reason I wanted it left is because it was 6 feet long, and I did not want to have to wait to order a replacement. They proceed to hand me a bill for half of the proposal price, which I paid. I ended up buying two smaller vanity bases which could be set side by side to replace the one taken out.

6 days later - 2 guys show up to start working on tile. They worked a couple of hours, then quit because of a thunderstorm, even though I suggested bringing all of their tools into the garage. One wall in the shower had tile set, and the tile was laid out on the floor. The invoice this time was 50% of the balance (making my payment now 75% of the entire price), plus an additional $100 charge for taking the debris 6 days ago to the dump-a fee I never agreed to. Before the employees leave, I'm informed that the owners are going on vacation for 2 weeks, and no one knows when someone will be back to work. Keep in mind that I now have a bathroom with the toilet taken out, no sink, no shower, and in a total mess.

I receive a message from the owner's wife, saying someone is scheduled to be here 20 days after my bathroom had been torn up. Did they show up? Nope
When I called, I got all kinds of excuses and no apology.

They did show up the next day, with the same kinds of results. As a result, they never put the top on the vanities, never cut the hole for the sink, there was no baseboard installed, grout was missing from several areas in the shower, one of the floor tiles was loose, piles of grout were left to dry up on my lawn, there was no transition strip installed between the tile and carpet, they never rehung the shower door or the bathroom door, the tile, they were offended when I asked them to help pay for the vanities I paid for (they paid 25%), and I was charged $40 for something off of the truck, which I have no idea what it could be, since I paid for, and have receipts for everything.

When I talked to the owner on the phone about what was going on, he was totally rude. When i sent a letter, I received a phone call from the wife who left a message telling me what a terrible person I am, and how I'm trying to take advantage of them—after I paid the entire proposal price plus all of the little add ons they came up with out of the blue.

I plan on sending one more letter, and filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
