Stewart Homes Of Tampa And Plant City, Florida
Refuses to reside ends of home to be the way they were ordered. Ripoff

Construction & Repair

After much research into manufactured housing we decided that we would buy a Homes of Merit double wide. We took a trip to Plant City and ended up at Stewart Homes. The salesman, Austin, sent us to the Tampa office to look at the model we were interested in. We ended up ordering the home.

I told Austin at least 10 times that I did not want the zipper on the ends of the home. He sent me the spec sheet to approve and there had to be some changes made to it, then it was sent back. The part about the ends of the house read, "lap siding." To me that meant that the ends would look just like a house. There would not be a zipper.

The house was finally delivered to the side of the road in June. The ends of the house had a zipper. I immediately called Austin and he stated, "Oops, I ordered it wrong. We will have to fix that."

The house was finally setup in July. The guys that set it up had to cobble the ends of the house to look like it was supposed to but you can tell that there had been a zipper.

I can't tell you haw many times I contacted Austin about it but it was multiple times. We had also dealt with Cheryl Stewart in regards to the house and how it was to be ordered.

At the closing in August of we again spoke to Cheryl Stewart. She stated, "We will get that fixed because I know that that is the way you ordered it."

It is now March. The ends of the house are still cobbled together. It looks like crap. I have called Stewart Homes several times about it. The first several months I got the run around. The last time that I called I was told "Mr. Stewart said that the was it is, is the way you ordered it. And we are not going to fix it." I was also told, "Austin doesn't work for us anymore."

I paid $96,000 for this home and I think that it should be the way that I ordered it.

When people come to the house they see the ends of the house and ask "what kind of house is it?" We answer that it is a Homes of Merit but Stewart Homes are the ones that should have fixed the ends of the house.

I would recommend a Homes of Merit Home but I would not recommend Stewart Homes as the salesperson. I shouldn't have closed on the house until the ends were finished but I was being pressured by the salesman, in fact he tried to get me to close on the house in June and it wasn't even on our property yet.

So if anyone is planning on ordering from Stewart Homes make sure that you have them write up what and how you ordered your home in plain English.
