Magic Jack Plus was marketed as a "free trial" when it was nothing of a sort. First I paid by credit card for shipping and handling and then charged $30.00 for a port out charge when I canceled just 4 days after receiving the device. Next, no one was able to help me to get the device to function properly unless it was plugged into the computer, the very thing I did not want to do. During the days I tried to use the device, I repeatedly let service techs know I was getting an error 1 message instead of a dial tone, no one followed up on me. Now no telling what other surprises magicjack will have in store for me even after I mailed in the device. I went through a two day nightmare just to get the number changed back to my previous carrier. And then finally there is nothing that lets the consumer know that even though you keep your number, you would have to tell everyone who used to call you with 7 digits to add the area code and thereby incur possible long distance charges for the local caller on their bill even if someone across the street were to call me. The representatives and techs on the chat line were friendly but totally ineffective in resolving the issue. There is no known way for me to speak with someone on the phone. Everything has to be typed instead of spoken. Overall, it was a bad experience for me and I could never recommend this device to a friend or family member. That would be too risky. I know nothing will come of this for me personally but I would strongly suggest everyone to do their homework before they buy this device.
