Management

Cafes, Bars, Restaurants

Hello, I am an employee at the IHOP on Baymeadows Rd.in Jacksonville Fl. I wanted to make you aware of the actions of our managers, actions many other employees like myself find disrespectful, rude, and extremely inappropriate. First off, let me state that although my work experience may not be vast, this is not my first job, and I have never worked in a place were the management treats they’re employees with the disrespect I see at my job. The managers at this location, Robin, Melanie, and Enoch, in my opinion, and the opinion of several others, are not fit to run this restaurant or any other.in regards to Robin, I have witnessed numerous qualities that are not becoming in a manager, such as favoritism, for one. There have been several incidents where one employee was treated differently than another, such as an employee being written up for leaving without completing his/her assigned work, and another employee leaving almost everyday without completing said work and suffering no repercussions.in one incident, I personally spoke to Robin and told her that I knew for a fact that he/she left without performing side work, rolling silverware, or cleaning tables, which is something every employee is required to do at the end of a shift, and was told, I’m sorry there’s nothing I can do about that. But, sadly, this is something of a regular occurance at the IHOP on Baymeadows, which is extremely unfair to the employees left for shift change, as they must clean the tables, roll the silverware, or perform the side work for those who neglected their duties, and yet, the managers choose to play favorites, punishing some, yet not others, so the problem never gets fixed. Another issue we have at my job, is tardiness, not only from the employees but the managers as well. First of all, what kind of example does it set when a manager arrives for their shift hours late? Or proceeds to go to the bank, but is gone two hours, not the thirty minutes it should take for such a trip? I have heard an employee being verbally berated, in front of his/her coworkers, not behind closed doors, for arriving ten minutes late, while others show up thirty minutes to an hour late with no repercussions, I myself am guilty of being tardy on many occasions, but as I stated, look at our examples. One of the things I find most alarming, is how Robin can change at the flip of a switch, the smiling, perfect southern bell to our guests, but once she is in the kitchen her entire attitude changes. I, as have several other employees, have been yelled at for merely asking for a three high of pancakes a customer never received. It is not merely the yelling that is alarming, which happens so often, we have grown accustomed to it, it is the fact that when she gets stressed, or irritated, or whatever reason she has for verbally abusing her employees, she throws dishes. I, along with the other employees, cooks, severs and dishwashers, witnessed her slamming plates on the ground, throwing plates onto the pass bar window, where the food, on one occasion, has flown off to hit a server in the face, who asked for a piece of toast. I had a server confide in me, stating that she asked Robin a question, which apparently infuriated her to the point that she felt the need to throw a plate at said server, who luckily caught it before it hit her face. It is things like this that make me dread going to work each day, even though I am in this business because I love working with people. Another thing that is inappropriate is the harassment, we recently were asked to watch a video on harassment, and yet I see Enoch put his arm around an employee, smack her on the butt with a folder, and on one occasion hit me in the back, seemingly playful, but with enough force to leave it stinging so bad I had to check for a handprint. Robin always puts the blame for everything on someone else, it is never her fault, for example, when a server says they are waiting twenty minutes for food that is not even cooked yet, she yells at the cooks asking why its taking so long to cook the food, or if she’s on the cooks line, and the food is taking twenty minutes, it’s the servers fault for seating the door. If there’s a problem with the food, its cold, not cooked right, etc. It’s somehow the servers fault, which they proceed to tell the guests, I have personally had this happen to me, when waiting on a recook for pancakes, I was specifically handed a fresh three high, which my table said had chocolate chips, that it was not supposed to, Enoch went and told the table that it was my fault, as a server, that the pancakes were wrong. It’s thing like this, things that happen every single day that make every employee hate being there.
