Awful "onion" rings - Onion Rings

I wanted a quick lunch with a friend yesterday, so we went to Burger King (212th and 76th in Edmonds, WA). I ordered the fish sandwich and a side of onion rings. Our orders came within a couple minutes, but when I tried one of the onion rings it was cold and tasted terrible. I returned to the service counter and was promptly served a fresh, hot order. However, after trying one of these, discovered that there wasn't any onion. The center of the "ring" appeared to be onion flavored batter. It had the consistency of undercooked pancake batter. Since we were finished with the rest of our meal, I took the basically full container of rings back to the register, explained my frustration, and asked for a refund. I was told that I had already exchanged one order. The person at the register refused to do anything to satisfy me and just shrugged when my friend said they were about to lose two customers. I expected at least a refund to compensate me for the problem. The best way to handle this would have been a refund and a discount card for a future order, with an invitation to try a different side item. I guess BK isn't worried about surviving the current economy!
