Ripoff failure to pay wages earned 2000 dollars

This is my employer in daltons bar and grill new york ny
his name is Paul Kiernan and he also ownes a bar named mccoys up the street. The employer owes me 2000 dollars and when i gave him my two week notice he said "im not gonna pay you cause you verbally told me you will stay here for a year" i never said that and this employer is doing something completely illegal, please someone help me get my 2000 dollars back.
