Promised me a credit card with a $2000 limit and no interest. Took $299 from my account-no card

Business & Finance

One evening while at home with my husband and daughter, I got a call from a man named David Silver at Coast to Coast. He told me my application for a credit card had been approved. I didn't remember applying for this card. He said it had been 6 months because they had computer problems, but all I had to do was to authorize them to deduct the processing fee of $299.95 from my checking account and I would have the card within two weeks. He even let me set the deduction for a later date telling me I'd have the card in time to transfer the $300 to my checking account from the card and not really have to pay out of pocket.

I went on and on with this man telling him I was not comfortable giving him my account information. He made me sound like an idiot for not wanting to accept such a great deal considering my current credit status asking me how can I not want this chance to rebuild my credit. I even hung up on him and he called me back. The only reason I went ahead and did it was because my husband told me it was okay. This was in January. I got some vacation package, which I knew I'd be getting but it had some page for me to sign about some prepaid mastercard, which was not what I was offered. I called them and they said that was the wrong package and they'd send the right one. I haven't gotten anything in the mail from them since.

The kicker is when you call and do get someone, it is a customer service representative who can't do a dang thing about your situation. They just keep telling me my file was referred to a manager and the manager has not responded. When you ask to speak to a manager they tell you you can't. Somehow, some way I am going to get my money back. Since then I have read that it is illegal to pay for the establishment of a credit line this way. I thought this was odd because other credit card companies who have processing fees usually charge them to the card and you pay them that way.

I hope that by reporting this I can at least keep other people from going through the same thing. I am going to just take the long way to rebuild my credit. It didn't get the way it is overnight and it won't be fixed overnight either. But I am not letting Coast to Coast get away with this. Considering my status, I sure didn't have $300 to give away. If anyone successfully gets a refund from this company, please update it here.
