Washington Mutual
Held payment until 16th so late fees could be assessed

First, let me say that WAMU has a hundred different addresses so I chose one close to my home. Each time I called, I was talking to someone in a different state. Another crooked practice.
Washington Mutual serviced my home loan for approximately 6 years. During that time, on numerous occasions, they held my payment past the 16th so they could charge me a late fee. When I finally caught on to what they were doing, I began sending my payments "return receipt requested". The first time they held it again, I called up and got a very rude employee who demanded proof that they received it on the 5th. I was told to fax it "right then" so I faxed a copy of the signed receipt. It was 2 weeks before they refunded my late fee. There was one month where we had a tragedy in the family and I forgot to send the payment. I realized it on the 20th and sent it right away. It cleared my bank on the 30th but they didn't post it until the 3rd... Because of this, they refused to accept the current month's payment. When I called them and told them I had the cancelled check in my hand showing it had cleared my bank on the 30th, she again demanded I fax it "immediately" which I did. They told me the only way they would accept this months payment is by Western Union (47.00 fee). I had no choice but to do it. Well PRAISE THE LORD I was able to refinance my home this month and WAMU was paid, in full, on Oct 26... Which is why I now choose to tell my story. I hope to NEVER again have to deal with this crooked company! I recommend anyone with home loans, send their payments "receipt requested" so they don't fall prey like I did!
