I responded to a flyer in that I received in the mail about a biweekly mortgage program. I was told on the phone that in order to process my application they would need a one time "lifetime" $195 "processing fee" which I paid by credit card. I was told I would receive a fax with some important documents immediately that I must sign within 72 hours to complete the application (no one mentioned I would lose the money if I did not cancel before then). I never received the fax and investigated the company on-line and found some unfavorable reports about them.
I called within 72 hours to cancel my application and obtain a refund of my application fee and was initally told the computers were down and they could not access my file to cancel the process and to call back. I called back and they denied receiving the $195 and said the computer did not have any of my information and a supervisor would call me back (that never happened).
I called my credit card company and reported the incident and they immediately responded. We set up a three way call confronting them about not receiving the $195 dollars and we were prepared to take legal action in 30 days if the money was not returned and it was refunded that very day.
