Debit Cards ripoff Nationwide

I was aware of the settlement last year where merchants could refuse to accept Visa and Mastercard Debit Cards and still accept Visa/Mastercard Credit Cards. I do have a Visa debit card, but I don't usually carry a credit card. I don't have a problem with merchants not accepting debit cards, but I think it needs to be advertised clearly if the business doesn't accept Visa debit cards.

One time when I was 300 miles away from home, I tried to rent a car to go home. I didn't have my credit card with me, all I had was a Visa debit card. No one told me that the rental agency didin't accept debit cards, and there was nothing of any sort whatsoever in the agency's advertising to say that the agency didn't take debit cards. The rental agency was not in a nice area. If it hadn't been for the man at the rental agency, I probably would've wound up face down somewhere in that town with a knife or bullet in my back.
