Dixie Homecrafters
Former employee speaks out

Business & Finance

I was the marketing manager for this company for 4 years and saw my fair share of illegal practices. Racism, and thievery were major factors. Comming to the company I was full of ambishin and fed into the company BS of how great it was. The Gm ending up leaving but not before stealing thousands from the company. The VP was from another failed company named Pace Setter. And the CEO was as racist as they come. I was instructed many times to hire more of a white staff For the canvass dept but in a city of baltimore where the majority of the population is african american it was a bit tough. So they worked in areas where they were most sucessful, in the black community. The sales reps hated it. And so did the upper management of corporate. I had to lie and cover for others when i knew it was moraly wrong, but i did it to keep my job. The constant ahuse and threatning emails were daily, and my Gm hated and complained when i wanted to take time off. He even asked me to come into work on the last day of my honeymoon. Now the shady part comes, the selling practices were crazy. High high high pressure sales. There wasnt any discounts, the so called drop call was a ploy to trick the customer into thinking they were getting a break in price from the Gm. I was a witness to many of them.

It plays out like this, the rep gets a customer to the point of interest. He then calls the Gm after crunching a few numbers and says I have Mr and Mrs Jones here and they love the company and product but its a price issue. The Gm asked what zip code are they in, thats because of the profiling in baltimore with how poor some home values are in certain zip codes. Most of the time the rep tries to sell the job cause he has to eat as well. It all comes down to the probing questions in the warm up, thats how they find out if you have money or not. If not you find a way to blow the lead. If you do then they will stay for hours and the negotiatios will begin. Put a yard sign in your yard, I'm gonna do something special for you tactic which is maybe a 10 percent drop in price because that Gm is now eating up his bonus just to get the job sold. During my 4 years there I witnessed 5 Gms come through those doors. And dont get fired cause they will do everything possible to keep you from recieving unemployment. Reps getting high before going to appointments, Gms comming in hung over or somtimes drunk and corporate bosses, the biggets of the south. Atlanta based southern good ole boys riding harleys and big mansions all at everyones expence fom the consumer to the employee. They are heartless, lieing money hungry thieves who care about nothing but lining thier pockets. The stories you read about them are true and need to be taken to heart. They no longer operate in baltimore, cause they no longer could make a profit. And i have sinced moved out the state and work in a field that has always called me. So watch out and dont be another victom.
