About a yr ago, at my last duty station, I took "freecreditreport.com" up on its offer of a free credit report. Promptly canceled the service upon checking the report, as I did not want to pay the recurring fees, and didn't feel I needed the services. Just wanted the report and that was all. Exactly what the offer was for. Just wanted the free report with no further obligation as advertised. However, a yr later, there is a phantom charge on my check card for $79.95 from "CIC Credit Monitoring". You can imagine that a yr latter, I didn't have a clue what this charge was til I did a search on google. Thats what brought me here... It was the first thing on the list. I am not the only one. I have not contatceted my bank yet but is my next step, hopefully they will stand behind me. This unsuspected charge put me in the negative balence side hence putting me in a whole, not to mention the overdraw fee inquired. I wen't through all the apropriate steps, to cancel the monitoring service, and even got the confirmation in an e-mail... Of course the e-mail is long gone now. How do people get away with this? I am Furious. I also did this free credit thing for my wife to, on the same account. I hope I do not assess this charge again.
