First National Credit
CA: RIP OFF SCAM wildly misleading offer! Thanks to your web site!

Business & Finance

A week or two ago (more?) I received First National Credit's fabulous Gold Credit Card offer with a $15,000 credit line, pre-approved.

I didn't take a closer look until just now. Because I could really use a $15,000 line of credit, I decided to read it very closely. The phrase about getting credit for 'all purchases from credit provider' jogged my brain slightly, but in my eagerness to find a phone number to get this card as soon as possible, it didn't really register.

There's no phone number, and the address says 'Unit 126, ' which sounds a lot like a personal residence.

Then there's the language:

1.'This is not a 'maybe'.' Hmmm... That is personal language, not standard credit card bank language.

2.'Once we receive... Your... Fee' Again, 'once we receive' is personal language, not bank language.

3.'One-time only $37 membership fee.' But at the end of the letter, there's a box to check for a '$37 standard processing and delivery' fee... Uh, processing and delivery are not the same as membership.

4.'30-day money back guarantee for membership fee.' Whoever heard of a credit card bank offering such a guarantee on its membership fee? Certainly not up front as a selling point!

5.'Just return... Within 30-days' Uh-oh, they have no proofreader who understands English rules for hyphens in adjectives as opposed to nouns ('30-day guarantee, ' but '30 days').

6.'This approval is fully enforceable...' What? Somebody might have to force them to make good on the $15,000 credit approval they've just offered, and they're assuring you that they're bound by it? This sentence should not be necessary.

7.' (c) 2001 First National Credit.' Copyright? On what? The form letter?

8.'Any infringement will be enforced...' An INFRINGEMENT on the copyright will be ENFORCED? This joker doesn't know how to use the English language, and is throwing out snatches of legal sounding jargon without having a clue as to the precise meaning of the words being used. The COPYRIGHT is enforced. An infringement or person who infringes is PROSECUTED.

9.'After 12-month period...' This is not acceptable English, even in shortcut language, for 'After a 12-month period' (too ambiguous), 'After the 12-month period' (still too ambiguous), 'After the initial 12-month period, ' or 'After the first 12 months.'

10.'An APR will be charged at prime plus...' Prime plus? Is that saying anything? No.

11.'Or approximately 11.49% based on the prime of 5.0%' This makes you want to go look up the prime lending rate to see if it's really 5.0%. And what's so hard about saying 'prime plus approximately 6.49%?' The math, maybe?

So I immediately got on the internet and did a search for 'First National Credit' 'Aliso Viejo.' Your 'complaint' site was at the top of the search results list. I instantly found what I needed to know about this credit card offer: it's a rip-off. It's not at all what I was hoping for in my cash-pinched frame of mind. It's not about me having $15,000 credit to spend wherever I choose. It's about making purchases from or through 'First National Credit, ' and they don't tell what's being offered for sale.

Thank you so much for having this website out there for me to find!
