Debt Settlement Rip-Off

A little over a year ago I contacted (via the website) Better Budget Financial Services to help me recover from credit card debt. The first conversation with the gentleman was great. I was comforted and given assurance that my credit card balances will be reduced by 50% with no hassles. All I had to do was save approximately $210 a month, giving BBFS $30 of it each month. I was set up with a two year plan that would eliminate my debt, with the option of paying the creidtors sooner.

Nine months later I was ready to pay off my debts, so I contacted BBFS and was ready for financial freedom. BBFS didn't seem to want to talk to me, I waited a couple weeks for a return call since it was around the holidays. I contacted them again, still with no help. I got the story that they were in contact with my creditors trying to get a settlement but the credit card company "didn't have my accounts anymore." So what was supposed to be an easy payment after I saved the money turned into a month long process that ended up costing me more money.

I decided to see for myself. I called my creditors to find out what was going on. They said they still had the accounts and that they don't work with settlement agencies or consolidators. Why would BBFS not tell me this when I signed up? So I settled with the creditors without the help of BBFS.

I ended up paying BBFS around $500 for absolutely nothing. On their website the President of the company personally gives a 100% satisfaction guarentee. Right! BBFS didn't think that they should even give me a portion of the money they collected from me. I guess the good thing is I didn't take the full two years to save the money to pay the creditors. I would have paid BBFS over $1000 for absolutely nothing!
