Over charged late fees and Interest Fees. Ripoff

I had 2 credit cards, but I see on my credit report 3 now, so I don't know. I had lost my job and was out of work 8 months. When this happened balances were not that high.

After accts were closed, they were still charging me late fees, over the limit fees and interest fess. Since then accts have gone over the thousands. Up to 5 times original balance.

I got contacted today by a Mr. William Steinberg (1800-562-2441) from Benning&Smith, telling me I am going to get sued if I don't pay at least settlement of 50% of each balance. I advised him if I had that kind of money, I would not be in this situation. He then changed his tuneand told me to make some kind of arrangements with him. I told him I am a single parent and not even getting the child support I am supposed to. He told me there private investigators finding things about me and I don't want to get sued. I told him I would call him back.

I found out today from a friend of mine today also about Providian. What can I do? Please help me.
