So, I posted earlier about how HSBC was randomly closing my accounts without providing me with any cause. It turns out they have a policy that if you request to close one account, that all accounts need to be closed for "security purposes". Unfortunately, the moron I worked with when trying to open a business checking account with HSBC a couple of weeks ago didn't inform me of this. So, when he asked if I wanted him to close the business account since we were having verification issues with it, he either didn't know or failed to disclose that "hey by the way, if I close this business account, your personal accounts will also be closed and you'll have to wait to get the money in them mailed to you via check".

Completely shocked how poor the customer service is at HSBC. Up until this point, I had never had an issue with the bank and had been a happy customer for a year and a half. Then when this happened, everyone is pointing fingers at each other claiming that they weren't the ones responsible and didn't have the power to do anything to help resolve the issue. I spent nearly four hours on the phone with customer service reps to finally find the source of the issue.

And to add insult to injury, when I finally realize that there's no way I can prevent my personal accounts from being closed, they attempt to tell me that I have to wait for a USPS mail with my checks in them for the balances on my account. As if I'm supposed to live for a week with no money and no possible way of surviving.

My advice to anyone is be persistent - I screamed bloody murder until I got them to FedEx me my bank balances via check to me. Don't let this company - or any bank for that matter - push you around like "you're just the little guy so you don't matter". I will never do business with HSBC again, and will make sure that anyone I run across who is looking for a bank account knows better than to deal with HSBC and especially the bank branch at Union Square in NYC since they apparently don't know their own company's policies. Messing with them will get you screwed and they'll deny all responsibility. They had no problem calling me multiple times a week asking me to open a business account as well as emailing me each week to push me to open a business account with them but as soon as something goes wrong, correspondence drops off.

Hsbc = fail

Avoid them at all costs: credit cards, mortgages, accounts, everything - they don't know what they're doing and it shows.
