Rip off, scam company

I was to believe that this company was going to help me. I was contacted by a representative that told me they would assist me with my mortgage and do a modification.in order to do so I had to pay an up front fee and said if the modification did not go through my money would be returned. They took the money from my checking account and I have not heard from any representative, I keep calling and leaving messages to hear from no one. My mortgage also said they have not heard from this company called America First financial. If anyone has dealt with this company please advise me what to do. I am now falling more behind on my current mortgage payment.
