I, too, am having a similar experience with Elimidebt. My husband and I decided to go through Elimidebt to knock down some of our bills. At the time, we were not married. We each went through the same intake counselor. We were told that our credit rating would not be in jeopardy.

Unfortunately, when the first payment was sent to Elimidebt, we were not told that that amount would not be applied to our accounts. We were told that we did not have to pay anything the first month to our creditors, not even the interest or finance charges. I called Elimidebt a month or so into the program to find out why they had not yet paid my creditors and that was when I was told that they kept the first payment and would use that as the last payment if we finished the program.

We were also told (each of us individually) that after we were in the program for about 9 months, Elimidebt would RE-negotiate our interest rates and payments with our creditors. Imagine our surprise when I called after 9 months and was told that they do not re-negotiate after the initial period.

Additionally, the quotes that we were given upon first entering the program were SIGNIFICANTLY under the amounts of the payments that we are currently paying. Had we realized that we would only be saving less than $100 a month (but paying $50 in fees), we would not have entered the program to begin with. However, if we leave the program now, we forfeit the money that they took as our initial payment.

It is very frustrating that there are people out there who are taking advantage of people who just want to get on the right track to financial freedom.
