Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC
Attempts to collect on accounts from 1994

Business & Finance

It appears the scummy collectors are at it again. Thanks to usacomplaints.com I got rid of JBC, NCO, and Boyajian years ago with no problems. This past weekend I got a letter from Portfolio Recovery Associates asking for a bunch of money and offering me "payment plans" with "discounts" depending on how I settled with them. They offered to "help" me save some money! Yeah, right. More like help me lose money.
The only reason I called them is due to a recent injury I have a lot of bills from doctors, hospitals, MRI companies, etc. And I'm trying to keep them all in order. I wanted to be sure that one of those bills didn't some how accidently get sent to a collection agency.
Here's the funny part, when I called to inquire exactly what this was about I got a rep named "Jack" (no last name, of course). Jack identified 2 accounts his company had going from 1994 and 1995 and asked me why I didn't get 2 letters (like I would know that). When I mentioned that these were waaaayyy past the SOL, Jack volunteered "we can't take you to court" but we can still collect the money! After wishing him good luck with that, I told him I didn't owe anybody any money and I requested he validate the accounts. Of course he told me he couldn't do that. He insisted they were still entitled to "their" money and tried to get me to talk to the "legal" department. After telling our boy Jack that he needed to send me everything in writing, needed to validate both of those requests, and needed to stop contacting me unless it was to tell me that his company was terminating said requests or taking me to court I ended the call.
I got the info I needed - nothing to do with my recent hospitalization and surgeries - and I got off the phone. Thanks to usacomplaints.com I have prepared a letter requesting them to validate (which I know they can't do), cease all communication unless it's to tell me they are taking me to court (which they also can't legally do) or terminating their efforts, and telling them I consider the matter closed.
Hope I didn't leave anything out. Thank you usacomplaints.com. I had a place to go check out this illegitimate company, and I had instruction on how to deal with them. I did NOT get upset, actually I found the whole thing pretty damn funny. Especially the part where Jack told me they couldn't take me to court but they could still collect the money. He never did have an explanation as to how they were going to do that.
Thanks to usacomplaints.com and everyone here who has donated their time and experience to make sure these bottom feeders don't get to scam everybody. I even had the opportunity last year to give usacomplaints.com's web address to a guy I worked with who told me he was being targeted about an old supposedly unpaid bill. He mistakenly believed he was safer paying them and had given them his bank info over the phone. Fortunately it was over the weekend and he was able to stop everything before they could take any money from him. That's 2 more people usacomplaints.com has saved from being scammed. This is an invaluable site. I just wish more people knew about it.

Thanks again, to all involved. This site is the BEST!!!
