Business & Finance

My husband and I retained the help of Tax Masters in July of 09. We had not filed in 6 years and the irs filed substitute returns for 2005 and saying we owed the IRS $13000. We talked to tax masters and he said that we could file an offer in compromise for a fee of $5000, paying just pennies on the dollar for what we owed to the irs. We happily agreed and enrolled with them. Then the problems just snowballed from there.

Apparently an offer in compromise isnt always acceptedand you have to pay your offer each month until it is accepted or rejected. When our offer was rejected, we called tax masters and demanded a refund. We were told that we should have known that this could have happened, when THEY are the ones who sold us on the idea in the first place. After months of complaints and requests for our refund, it was still never given. Then, we received a notice of intent to levy.

Needless to say, we filed as many complaints with the better business bureau as we could. Talk about frustrating. I couldnt sleep for days and didnt know what to do. When we filed a complaint with the better business bureau against tax masters, one of the complaints talked about another company called jg tax group that had been used with success. I definitely had a bad taste in my mouth for all tax attorneys after dealing with Patrick Cox and the Tax Masters. But I decided to check them out anyway.

I looked them up in the bbb and they were A rated, unlike tax masters with their F rating and 250 some odd complaints. Then we clicked over to their website at www.jgtaxgroup.com. My husband Justin decided he would call them and see what they were about. Since we had already talked to tax masters, we thought we had a rough idea of how this would go, but boy were we wrong! When we asked about an offer in compromise, JG told us that based on our income and assets, we would almost certainly not qualify. From here we gathered that JG Tax Group was serious about helping us and knew how to represent us, and for only half of what taxmasters got from us.

They immediately explained what it was going to take to get us into compliance with the IRS so we could we weed through all this paperwork and remove the levy. Once we signed the power of attorney, we only had to talk to jg, not the IRS anymore. The levy was removed in 3 days! They filed ALL of our unfiled taxes and turned our $13000 debt ot the irs into a $8 return. We actually got money back! I went with JG Tax Group and never once regretted it. Id recommend them to anyone! Make sure you research whatever company or attorney you decide to hire for your tax problems. They arent all good guys like jg.
