Ripoff - unfair charging practices

When I applied I understood that a higher interest would be charged but that i would be eligible for an increase and/or a better rate after 6 mos. Yeah whatever! After a year they still would not consider a lower rate 18.99% I might add so I applied to a different company with less than half the interest, no membership, and no monthly fee. This is where what household is doing really comes to light.

On aug 29 I made a payment of 97.00 on a balance of 346.00 wich should have left me a balance of about 249.00 (do the math) when I called and asked them where can i pay my account off and close it? I was informed that the only thing I could do was to mail a payment to an address in pomona california however the 249.00 would not be sufficient because there would be a service charge to close it and if not recieved by the first I would inccurr a monthly charge plus interest, I ended up sending a cashiers check for 266.00 (an amount they gave me) with should have resulted in an overpayment of 1 or 2 dollars after their charges were applied then i could ask for a refund and close the account. As ridiculous as it sounds, that is what i did.

Now the problem is the 266.00 has not been credited, my balance is now 268.84 because of daily interest (of course) and when I call customer service, I am told that they have no way of calling or contacting the branch that they said to send the payment to. I asked them well how do I know that it's not just sitting on someone's desk? Can't you help me with this and they said no, I have given them the cashiers check # and also asked them to note the account, they said that I would be charged interest and monthly service fees until they find the payment.

I could place a stop payment but it can take up to 90 days to get reimbursed for my cashiers check and I will have to continue with my monthly payment, interest and service charges, can you imagine how much more they'll be able to charge me? When i told them that i didn't believe that was fair and i would wait for reimbursement but where can I go or what can i do to pay this off today!!! And stop all these ridiculous charges, I was given the same mailing address in pomona again. I also asked them how much more do you intend to charge me?

I just want to be done with you? They informed me that i would have to wait for a billing statement. How many people do they do this to? Right now if i'm lucky, it looks like i'm going to pay somewhere around 300.00 to pay off and close an account that should have only been around 249.00. Please tell anyone you know to go to this website and check this company out before doing any type of business with them.
