Sweepstakes or Lottery Claim Scam from Canada Or Houston or Texas

Business & Finance

I received a letter in the mail from Fidelity Financial Inc claiming that I won $85,000.00 if I had shopped at Walmart, JC Penny, Sears, or subscribed to Reader's Digest in 2008. They also sent a check for $3,950.00 to cover insurance and processing fees which was deducted from the $85,000.00. I was instructed to contact Phil Morrison (Claims Agent) at 1-905-783-1502. The letter was signed by Dr. Pamela Draths, Prize and Awards Co-ordinator. Also the check and letter had my maiden name on them, but my current address. I have not used my maiden name on anything since 2004.

The check has First Tennesse Bank, 701 Market St, Chattanooga, TN, 37402-4804 listed as the bank from which the money will come. Looks extremely authentic right down to the security features listed on the back of the check, even the watermark.

I almost fell for this because I shop at Walmart and JCPenny all of the time. Then my gut told me to check this out online and see what I could find, and sure enough, others had reported similar things sent to them. So, don't fall for this, the letter was mailed from Canada, check from Tennessee, and the company is based in Texas. The contact number is a cell phone in Canada.

Hope this helps someone else!
