Paid in Full in 1998 but Account Still on Credit Report

I have been trying to remove the credit report rating from my credit report since 1998. I paid my account in full. I still have the receipt showing such a thing and yet they still refuse to take it off my credit report. I have not done business with them since 1994 and paid in full in 1998. Why are they still on my report stating I still owe them money is beyond me. I don't know what else to do can anyone help me?
