Trying to scam people out of $1250 bucks to get a job!

Business & Finance

Phresh Ta Def are going through job sites and contacting people about customer service positions with their company. They tell you that you can make from 12 to 30 dollars an hour (based on your test scores).

Once they have you in there, they read a very long contract where they say that you qualified to make 30 bucks an hour and that you're going to be paid once a month, etc.

Then, after they finish that, they pull out the contract that says you have to pay 1250 bucks for special software (oddly, they seem to be the owners of the software). Of course, you can apply for credit to see if you qualify for their 0 down payment option. If you don't pass that, they say they'll see how they can work it out for you BUT YOU HAVE TO APPLY FOR THE CREDIT FIRST - thus, they have your identification and have a "limited power of attorney" because of the very badly written contract they have you sign.

A family member whom I was texting during the "group interview" brought to my attention that this "company" was cited on this and other websites.

During this time, the four people purporting to be from the company suggested that we leave them with our information and they would "get back to us" about whether or not we qualified for credit. Right.

As I left (and taking the contracts with me), I commented about them being listed on the internet as a scam and the person put forth as the typical employee responded "Are we on Scam.com AGAIN???"

Obviously, they are well aware of their reputation, but are still at this sick little game of theirs.

As an addendum, the Radisson in Culver City where they held this "group interview" had no idea who they were and were going to look into the matter.

This all just makes me ill. How many people fell for this expensive scam?

FYI, I told as many people there as I could that these people had a bad reputation and let them come to their own decision as to how they would respond. I think police reports are forthcoming.
