Central States Insurance
Credit Card Disability Insurance

Business & Finance

I paid premiums at a given amount per $100 I owed on my credit card as insurance in case I was hospitalized, disabled or dead to take care of my credit card balance.
I was injured in October and filed a claim with SecureCredit which is the part of Central States Insurance owned and adminstered by First National Bank in Omaha, Nebraska. After I filed a claim I got a "claim packet" in the mail and was informed that I had 45 days to get this information filled out and back to their offices or my claim would be denied. Well, it took the mail seven days to get to me, three weeks to have the orthopedic's office to fill out their part and three weeks for my employers HR department, which has been downsized and moved out of state, to fill out their part and return to me. I was doomed as it took over the 45 days as I have NO POWER over the orthopedics office nor my employers HR office in the speed in which they process paperwork processes for third parties.
I returned the completed "claim packet" to SecureCredit and when I got a late notice on my credit card, I called SecureCredit to see what was going on and was told that they never received said comleteded "claim packet". OK, I am getting wise now and had made copies of everything. I copied it all and sent it all REGISTERED MAIL, return receipt requested so I could prove that it had been sent and received. SecureCredit still was not happy with the information and I was mailed another "claim packet" with the same 45 day time bomb. I dutifully had it filled out by the orthopedic office and my employer and again mailed it REGISTERED MAIL, return receipt requested and the insurance company was not happy with the way it was filled out. They sent me ANOTHER "claim packet" and again I trudged to the orthopedic office and pleaded with them to hurry, and did the same with my employer. I mailed it REGISTERED MAIL, return receipt requested and they were not satisfied witht he way my orthopedic's office had filled out one section. I had them fill it out AGAIN and faxed it and got a fax cover sheet in return so I could prove it had been faxed and received by SecureCredit. This time they were not satisfied with the employers section and I pleaded with them to fill it out again and again I faxed the paperwork and got a fax cover sheet to prove it had been delivered.
Today is May 27 and I got a nice letter from First National Bank in Omaha Nebraska that underwrites the NRA credit card informing me that they are aware that times are hard and they want me to call a 1-800 number and talk to them about making arrangements to pay the bill on my card. I called and informed them that two payments of $189 had been made, the first in Feb. 2009 and the other in March. The helpful lady at First National Bank in Omaha who owns the National Rifle Association Visa card informed me that it was not their problem that I had a problem with Central States Insurance who adminsters the financial insurance instrument, SecureCredit.
It turns out that the bank if self insured, they own Central States Insurance who actually makes the payments and SecureCredit is the obstacle course they make you complete to get them to accept your application for benefits.
It is all a scam because it has been over eight months and they are not taking their fiscal responsibility seriously because there is nothing the State of Mississippi Insurance Commission can do to them because they are "self insured". I wonder if there are Federal laws to break up this scam. I made these payments in good faith for years and when I had an industrial accident in October and have had to endure two surgeries and face disability that they won't do what our contract states. I have been trashed on the credit reporting agencies and had two credit cards cancelled because my credit score was so dismal. I am also facing foreclosure on my house because the Workmen's Compensation in Mississippi is $379 per week which is not enough to service my mortgage or any other debe.
I have exhausted all my savings and emptied my 401k account to remain current as long as I did, seven months, but now face financial ruin at the hands of this insurance agency.
Can anyone help? Am I the only one or is there a chance of a class action suit against Central States Insurance Company and even perhaps First National Bank of Omaha Nebraska?
These banks have been getting taxpayer bailouts on my dime and now refuse to honor thier own contracts.
