The Finance Company, Trying to get $6200 bucks from me, have no idea what for!

So I just got a letter in the mail from a collenctions agency saying we owe ove $6200 to The Finance Company which is Portfolio Acquisitions from May 1999. This is the first time i have ever seen this bill. I have never heard of the Finance Company either. Has anyone ever dealt with any of these ppl before?

I called and thats all the info they gave me so i did some research on the internet and found that there has been several other ppl who have had to deal with these companies before. So when collections called me a little bit ago i told her i wanted to dispute it and she told me i can do what i want but its not going to go anywhere off of our credit report and was very rude to me.

How many of you guys out there have dealt with this and what can i do? Wer are trying to get a loan for a house soon and we cant do that with this on our credit. Im only 25 and I dont need this stuff!!!
