No escrow account. Taxes were not late they paid them now payment has doubled

We received a paid copy of our County Taxes. I assumed my husband paid them and he assumed I paid them seeing how we had a copy of the tax bill stamped paid. Our taxes were not late and we always paid them ourselves we do not have an escrow account...
We just received our mortgage bill and it has now doubled to where we can not afford our home. We did not authorize them to pay our home taxesand our taxes were not late. Do they have the right to do that and make us pay it back like that...
Bank of America just bought out Countrywide when all this happened..
What are my options before I lose my home..
