Ripoff victimized many consumers, promised free credit report then charged $79.95

I followed the line for a free credit report. I mistakenly gave them my credit card number. The final screen stated that unless you were bankrupt there was a charge. I said to hell with that and closed the screen. That was around Feb 20th. On April 10th my credit card account was blocked due to suspected fraudulent charges. Two days later someone tryed to apply for a charge card using my ssn. Not only was my credit card number compromised, but my identity was stolen as well. Of course I can't prove the two are related but it seems more than a coinsidence doesn't it? I then noticed a $79.95 charge for this credit card monitoring service which I never got and had assumed was canceled. I checked on the web for information about the company and came accross these reports of similar happenings and dollar ammounts. I called the 877 513-4175 number and aprised them of the situation. They wanted my ssn and credit card number. I had to restrain myself from telling them where to get off. My account was pulled up by name, address and Phone Number. They said they would credit my card with the ammount. I am not holding my breath but you can bet I will be watching my next bill. David Sykesville, Maryland
