Countrywide home loans
Bait and switch

Business & Finance

I called countrywide home loans to consider refinancing my house mortgage. I spoke with Ms. Gardenia Easley. Ms. Easley told me that I could refinance at a lower interest rate and my monthly payment would be about $960.00. I am currently paying $1,074.00 per month. I told her that I would like to refinance if the payment would be $960.00 per month. She told me I had to send $440.00 to secure the lower interest rate/monthly payment and then we could proceed with the refinancing. I charged the $440.00 to my credit card. They came and appraised the house about a week later. Next they tell me the anticipated monthly payment amount previously stated by Ms. Easley was not correct. It would be about $1,050.00 not $960.00. This amount would not make it worth it for me to refinance at this time. I told them that I only paid the $440.00 because I thought I was securing a payment amount of $960.00 not $1,050.00. Ms. Easley said they could not refund me the $440.00 even though she quoted me a wrong quote amount. I feel this is an injustice because I don't have $440.00 to throw away and I would not have paid $440 if I wasn't baited in to paying it by being offered a significantly lower monthly payment. I didn't know a company as nationwide as countrywide would do this to desperate people trying to pay off their mortgage in ah honest manner. I would like to retrieve my $440.00 and see that no one else gets ripped off like this by this company.

Sincerely, Richmond Thompson
