Tried to get $187.00 for credit card

On 03-17-03 I received a call from a man identifying himself as Peter Johnson. He said that I had already been pre-approved for a Master Card for the amount of $1,00.00 which he said was already activated (he gave me a number that he said proved the card was already activated at a 9.9% rate).

I told him that I was on a very limited income because I am disabled. He would not take no for an answer. He then gave me his name and the name and address of his company.

I kept asking him how much this was going to cost me. He would not say right away but told me that I only had to pay $25.00 per month on a $500.00 purchase. If I made all payments on time for six months my credit would then be extended to $5,000.00.

I asked him to explain what he had said to me to a friend of mine, which he did. She said it sounded good to her.
I gave him the information he needed and then he told me that the activation fee was $187.00 to be removed from my checking account on the 4th of the following month.

I then received a phone call from Nelson&.

The more I had time to think about it, the more bogus it felt. I have tried calling the phone number and got Prime One Financial's Customer service asking me to please hold and my call would be taken in order of priority. This was done several times but I never talked to anybody.

I have now contacted my bank and put a stop withdrawal payment on my checking account.
