Fishing Expedition

Business & Finance

Contacted in writing by JC Christensen in a typically rude collections letter that assumed I was the delinquent criminal they sought. I was particularly offended by the ridiculous - "Unless you notify this office within 30 days after receiving this notice that you dispute the validity of this debt, this office will assume this debt is valid."

I called and spoke to their clerk and discovered that they were looking for someone 15 years younger from a state where I had never lived who got a credit card from a bank I have never used and then gone delinquent. Only similarity - same name and middle initial. I refused to supply them my SSN as I had no idea if they were real or not. This was an obvious fishing expedition. I think they must get their leads from Facebook or mySpace.

They said they would take care of it, but I went to the trouble to write the letter and disavow the debt anyway. Wish I could find a way to charge them for the two hours they wasted of my Saturday.
