Sucks!

I have been with Countrywide Mortage Company for many years. I currently owe 170,000 on my home, which it is now appraised at 87,000. I have been contacting Countywide for over (8) months regarding a principal reduction. Never the less this company has refused to assist me in this matter. I have never had one late payment on my mortage. I have contacted customer service several times stating that I need some assistance with reducing my principal balance. Now from my understanding this company would rather your home go into foreclosure before they assist me. I need help!!! If there is anyone out there that can give me some valuable advise please do. At this point I am just ready to walk away from the property and just let the house go into foreclosure... I do not want this to happen because I have great credit and I would like to keep it that way, but this company is leaving me no other choice.
